WHY
SPARTA?
With a population of 17,000, spread over 39 square
miles, Sparta Township is located only (50 miles from New York City, According
to a recent demographic study, Sparta's median
household income ranks in the 97"~
percentile in the nation. The beauty of the lakes and hills is obvious.
More elusive is the spirit of Sparta - residents are fiercely proud of their
hometown! Why? Perhaps its because Sparta offers such a wide variety of
activities and interests - truly something for everyone! Sparta isn't just a
place on the map - Sparta is a life style!
Community activities are plentiful, providing family
fun and entertainment. Sparta Day features booths, games, craft displays, food
and music. Arranged by the Sparta Cultural Affairs Committee, free, on-the-lawn
concerts at the library
on Friday evenings in the summer enable the whole family
to relax at week's end to
enjoy music and
friends. The fourth of July celebration is an old-fashioned treat, from the
morning parade featuring local schools, organizations and municipal services to
the evening fireworks display over Lake Mohawk.
Residents with a creative spirit will find many
outlets. The Cornerstone Playhouse was formed by a group of amateur actors who
enjoy performing a variety of shows for both adults and children. Sussex County
Community College has its own resident theater group, the Pegasus Players, which
not only performs, but also offers classes in the performing arts. Activities of
Warren-Sussex Arts Foundation include art exhibits and a referral service; the
Foundation is also responsible for all the live entertainment at the annual
Sussex Farm and Horse Show.
